The Territory Of Bolgheri
The denominations of Bolgheri DOC and Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC, both created in 1994, reached international fame as a reference point in the oenological world, with fragrant, complex and elegant wines, able to express the territory of origin and exalt local gastronomy.
Here, nature still reigns uncontaminated. The vineyards are set on a splendid plain surrounded by hills covered with woods known as the “Bolgheri Amphitheater”. The amphitheater encloses the plain overlooking the sea, creating a unique microclimate with considerable temperature variations between day and night.
These micro-climatic conditions enhance the character and personality of the varietals, giving the wine a great territorial identity. The varieties traditionally grown in the Bolgheri area are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, as well as Syrah and Petit Verdot. The indigenous Vermentino is, however, the most widespread white grape vine, along with Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier.
